A marketing manager works with products to create strategies that are designed to sell. Getting to that level of marketingexpertise requires at least a bachelor’s degree or higher. Most students would need to take out a private student loan to cover the cost of the studies.

Certain degrees might need an internship as part of the graduation requirements. It’s also best to look for relevant opportunities during your school breaks. In many cases, your experience is equally as critical as your degree, so you’ll be glad later that you had internships.

Internships are also useful since they teach you a range of additional job skills. As a marketing manager, you can use these skills in other positions as you progress in your career. One reason to pursue marketing is that it is so flexible. After graduation, you will likely find your niche and develop specific skills. However, in school, the degree provides a foundation for the necessary skills required in marketing. So even if you do not find your dream position, you will realize you have already the required background to find another job. For example, suppose you have spent your career managing campaigns online. In that case, you might be able to work as an executive of an ad account.

As a marketing manager, you’ll have to lead a range of projects, and they’ll keep you busy enough that you are unlikely to be bored. You can expect to work on distribution, pricing, and advertising. You’ll likely determine the products sold by your company and how you advertise them. Managers often determine aspects of products, such as flavors, packaging, or size.

They use information from customer surveys and research the best ways to attract new customers.

Marketing managers often work with high-level employees in a company. They may work with product owners, shareholders and executives. For instance, an executive might look at reports outlining how well each product fares in a specific period. They’ll see whether it trends upwards or downwards. As a marketing manager, you might be responsible for getting those reports into executives’ hands.
