And when the Qur'an is recited, give ear to it and pay heed, that ye may obtain mercy.
    In context

When the Qur’ān is recited, listen to it being recited: do not talk, and do not busy yourself with something else, so that Allah may have mercy on you.

And when thou recitest the Qur'an, seek refuge in Allah from Satan the outcast.
    In context

When you intend to recite the Qur’ān - O believer - then ask Allah to protect you from the whispering of the Satan, who is rejected from Allah’s mercy.

    And when thou recitest the Qur'an we place between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter a hidden barrier;
    In context

When you - O Messenger - recite the Qur’ān and they hear the warnings and admonitions it contains, I place between you and those who do not have faith in the Day of Judgment a barrier that prevents them from understanding the Qur’ān, as a punishment for their turning away from it.

Establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of night, and (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn is ever witnessed.
    In context

Establish the prayer by performing it in the most complete manner in its times, which are the declining of the sun from the middle of the sky - and this includes the zuhr and ‘asr prayers - until the darkness of night - and this includes the maghrib and ‘isha prayers.

And (it is) a Qur'an that We have divided, that thou mayst recite it unto mankind at intervals, and We have revealed it by (successive) revelation.
    In context

And I sent it as a Qur’ān which I have separated and explained, in the hope that you read it to people slowly and carefully, as this is more effective for understanding and reflecting. And I revealed it in separate portions according to incidents and conditions.

Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo! worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, but verily remembrance of Allah is more important. And Allah knoweth what ye do.
    In context

Read - O Messenger - to people what Allah has revealed to you of the Qur’ān and do the prayer in the most perfect manner. Prayer that is discharged perfectly restrains the doer from falling into sins and wrong, because it creates a light in the heart that prevents the perpetration of sins and guides the person to doing righteous deeds.

Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure,
    In context

Or increase it until you reach two thirds. Make the Qur’ān clear when you recite it and recite it slowly.

Lo! thy Lord knoweth how thou keepest vigil sometimes nearly two-thirds of the night, or (sometimes) half or a third thereof, as do a party of those with thee. Allah measureth the night and the day. He knoweth that ye count it not, and turneth unto you in mercy. Recite, then, of the Qur'an that which is easy for you. He knoweth that there are sick folk among you, while others travel in the land in search of Allah's bounty, and others (still) are fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite of it that which is easy (for you), and establish worship and pay the poor-due, and (so) lend unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatsoever good ye send before you for your souls, ye will find it with Allah, better and greater in the recompense. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
    In context

Your Lord, O Messenger, knows that you sometimes spend less than two thirds of the night in prayer, sometimes you stand for half the night, sometimes a third, and a group of the believers stand with you. Allah determines the night and day and counts their hours.

Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof.
    In context

It is My duty to gather it in your chest and to establish its recitation on your tongue.

    And when We read it, follow thou the reading;
    In context

When Gabriel has completed its recitation to you, then be attentive and listen to its being recited.

And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?
    In context

When the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate to their Lord?!

We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget
    In context

I will teach you, O Messenger, the Qur’ān, and gather it in your chest so you do not forget it. So do not race with Gabriel in the recitation as you used to do with the desire that you do not forget it.
