About Surah At-Takathur
At-Takathur criticizes the human tendency to compete over accumulating wealth, status, or numbers of descendants — a rivalry so consuming it distracts people until death itself. The surah warns that this behavior will be fully understood for what it was once people see the reality of the afterlife with certainty, and that everyone will be questioned specifically about the pleasures and comforts they enjoyed in this world.
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

أَلۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ
Al haaku mut takathur
Rivalry in worldly increase distracteth you
Tafseer
2
حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ
Hatta zurtumul-maqaabir
Until ye come to the graves.

3
كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Kalla sawfa ta'lamoon
Nay, but ye will come to know!

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Thumma kalla sawfa ta'lamoon
Nay, but ye will come to know!
Tafseer
5
كَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
Kalla law ta'lamoona 'ilmal yaqeen
Nay, would that ye knew (now) with a sure knowledge!

6
لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ
Latara-wun nal jaheem
For ye will behold hell-fire.

7
ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
Thumma latara wunnaha 'ainal yaqeen
Aye, ye will behold it with sure vision.
Tafseer
8
ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
Thumma latus alunna yauma-izin 'anin na'eem
Then, on that day, ye will be asked concerning pleasure.
