About Surah Al-Maun
Al-Ma'un criticizes a form of religious hypocrisy: people who technically pray but do so carelessly or for show, while failing to care for orphans or encourage feeding the poor, and even withholding basic, everyday assistance from their neighbors. The surah ties genuine faith directly to practical compassion, suggesting that ritual worship without real concern for others' welfare misses the point of religion entirely.
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ
Ara-aital lazee yu kazzibu bid deen
Hast thou observed him who belieth religion?
Tafseer
2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ
Fa zaalikal lazi yadu'ul-yateem
That is he who repelleth the orphan,
Tafseer
3
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
Wa la ya huddu 'alaa ta'amil miskeen
And urgeth not the feeding of the needy.

4
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ
Fa wai lul-lil mu salleen
Ah, woe unto worshippers

5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ
Al lazeena hum 'an salaatihim sahoon
Who are heedless of their prayer;

6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ
Al lazeena hum yuraa-oon
Who would be seen (at worship)
Tafseer
7
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ
Wa yamna'oonal ma'oon
Yet refuse small kindnesses!
